4 Years and over 1 Million Miles Of Adventure!

Wow, four years ago today I left my home in San Diego for what was supposed to be a one year trip in a circle around the world with the intention of visiting 15 countries and then returning back to the USA to figure out what to do next.    3 extra years and 35 extra countries later …. The Adventure is still continuing….  I don’t think I could have ever imagined what a ride it could have been so far and I look forward to so much more.

I turned on Google’s “Invade your privacy and let us track your every move” (…..not what they call it…..)   at some point in 2015 and apparently I have traveled over 1 Million miles since then.    travel-miles-small

I’ve been very often lazy with keeping a blog, I moved at points to posting images on Facebook and on Instagram to share my experiences.   Of course I “settled down” for a bit, renting a house in Nicaragua for a year – but still, there wasn’t a period of more than 2 months when I stayed in that house without leaving for at least 2 weeks and … I was living in Nicaragua (not exactly “not” an Adventure.

So, I felt like posting a blog to commemorate.  It’s just a date, it’s just a point in time but I wanted to put a marker in it for myself.

A while ago I changed the tag line on the blog to “Around the world, Inspiring Adventure”.   I like to share my thoughts and my photos with people to give people a glimpse into what is possible.

I tend to be long winded but I won’t today.  I know that 99.99% of people aren’t fortunate enough, lucky enough or bold enough to live a life like mine.  I know that in reality 99.9% of people wouldn’t actually want or thrive in the life that I live.  That the reality of travelling 1 million miles in 3 years would be awful.  For me it’s amazing and it shows well in photos but it’s not right for almost anyone.20180105_143732-ANIMATION.gif

With that said,  I just want to take a moment to offer inspiration to go out and have an adventure.  Make this weekend into an experience.  Visit the closest National Park or State Park.   Do you know that tourist attraction that is closest to you?  It’s a tourist attraction for a reason – even if it is super crowded – visit it.  Find out when the least crowded time is.

I started a little test for myself the other day – I opened up a calendar and I would pick a date from the past 4 years and would see if I could actively remember what happened on that day.   I actually couldn’t pick a date that I didn’t remember what happened.

I know that most people have to live their lives in a way to afford to live but I still know that you can find time for adventure and the experience and the memories that you will have will be cherished.

Be Curious in 2018!!!!

PS: In case you are wondering, At the moment I am in Kiev, Ukraine and will be settling a home base in Barcelona, Spain with my wonderful girlfriend Olga who I have been with for the past four months.   Yes, we will be creating a home but we won’t stop the adventure at all.   I’m including some random photos from the past year – 2017 included Ecuador, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Germany, France and a good chunk of the gold old USA.
